ABOUT
The Union of Time Thieves was started in 2014 by Becky Meiers, and counts among its constituent parts many collaborators — regular and momentary. In its earliest incarnation, The Union of Time Thieves was an once-monthly, hour-long radio program on KBOO Community Radio.
Our original mission: The Union of Time Thieves was formed to reclaim the world we all live in from the power of alienation.
This might sound like a strange concept to some, as we seem to be surrounded by choices: choices for where to work, choices for what to do when you’re done with work, and choices for where to spend your time.
The Union of Time Thieves exists because we think those choices are illusory, that they all stem from the need for society to continuously broker power and assign value among its parts.
This show is an effort to demonstrate how to systematically increase free, creative time, and to encourage listeners to explore the spaces they occupy with the goal of collaborative reclamation.
Since then, The Union of Time Thieves has evolved into multiple auditory projects, video collage, visual art, and written ephemera. We podcast audio art on KBOO Community Radio and we broadcast a weekly music program on Freeform Portland.
